Antique Novelty Seated Pig Vesta Case Little Wadhurst Farm Match Safe

Description

An Antique NOVELTY White base métal and brass-plated finished SEATED PIG Holding a Swag Money Bag Vesta case Match holder. Stamped LITTLE WADHURST FARM, FOREIGN and 10,000 on the bag.

The hinged lid pops open at the neck, the striker on the underside. The tip of the pigs snout is punctured to hold a lit Vesta match upright to use as a bedside light (Go to Bed). The hollow body was filled with glass to keep the piece stable when a match was burning on its nose. Most of the glass is now broken and not there.

Probably made in Germany or Austria for the British Market c1920’s.

Great piece of collectable Tobacciana.

Measuring 5 cm x 2.5 cm.

In good antique condition. Hinge working well, displays honest, light age-related surface wear, pocket scuffs, sits up but with a wobble, and a beautiful natural brass patina consistent with age and use.
