Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Arts and Crafts brass log bin, dating from circa 1880 by Henry Loveridge, is cauldron-shaped with loop carry handles and stands on three shaped cabriole legs. Made from heavy solid brass, it has a warm brass colour with a lightly polished finish, good patina, and general wear commensurate with age. Raised round bosses encircle the rim, complemented by a hammered finish on the body, and the underside bears a maker's stamp. Measuring 30 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 32 cm deep, it suits placement beside a fireplace hearth for holding logs or as a traditional planter in an English country house interior.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts metalwork emphasizes hand-crafted construction, honest expression of materials, and decorative elements inspired by natural forms or simple geometric repetition, often featuring exposed rivets, hammered textures, and raised bosses.

Victorian fireside bins were predominantly fabricated from sheet brass or copper, frequently fitted with cast brass legs, iron liners, and copper rivets to withstand exposure to heat and wet firewood.

Authentic pieces by Henry Loveridge & Co often feature stamped makers marks or registry diamonds on the underside, along with distinctively turned handles, robust solder joints, and high-quality repousse metalwork.

Beyond storing firewood on a hearth, these vessels function as indoor plant containers, umbrella stands, or decorative storage containers for throw blankets in contemporary living spaces.

Remove loose dust with a soft cloth, and clean gently using mild soap and warm water; avoid aggressive abrasives that strip natural age patina, and apply microcrystalline wax to protect the metal from oxidisation.
