Introduction
An atmospheric Lake District landscape showing cattle standing in the shallows of Lake Windermere beside a solitary figure.
The lake opens towards mountainous scenery, where warm evening illumination catches the principal fell in orange, ochre and russet against cooler distant tones.

Catalogue Note
The dark foreground provides a strong tonal foundation for the composition before the eye travels across the still lake towards the illuminated mountain beyond.
The combination of warm and cool colour, atmospheric recession and broken brushwork gives the scene considerable depth while preserving its quiet pastoral character.

The Artist
De Breanski Jr. studied at St Martin’s School of Art and exhibited at the Royal Academy and Royal Society of British Artists.
“A. Fontville” is documented as an alternative signature associated with the artist. Comparable documented works also demonstrate his practice of signing and identifying landscapes on the reverse.
