Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mezzotint is a printmaking technique from the intaglio family that allows for subtly shaded tonal gradations without hatch lines. Developed in the seventeenth century, the artist or engraver prepares a copper plate using a serrated metal tool called a rocker, creating thousands of tiny pits that hold ink to produce deep tones.

Period mezzotints were printed on heavy rag paper using oil-based carbon black inks pulled from hand-engraved copper plates. Framed examples often feature contemporary glass, wooden moulding, ebonised finishes, and water-gilded inner slips.

Authentic period mezzotints display a clear indented plate mark line surrounding the image where the copper plate was pressed into the paper. Examination under magnification reveals fine velvet-like tonal dots rather than modern dot-matrix or digital reproduction patterns, alongside period publication lines etched along the bottom margin.

A large framed black-and-white portrait print provides visual grounding when displayed above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a gallery wall. Pairing monochrome historical artwork with contemporary minimalist furniture or rich timber pieces creates a balanced contrast between period character and modern design.

Display paper prints away from direct sunlight and artificial ultraviolet light to prevent fading and paper degradation. Frame the item using acid-free mounting boards and museum-grade UV-protective glass while maintaining stable humidity levels to avoid foxing or cockling.
