Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian style sideboard dates from 1920 and takes the form of a small mahogany bowfront cabinet in warm brown. The construction employs rich flame mahogany veneer panels, decorative reeded mouldings around the drawer frames, and bracket feet along the base. Brass ring handles ornament the four central stacked drawers, while working keyholes sit on the two curved outer cupboard doors, complete with teal tassels hanging from keys. Internal shelving sits behind the flanking doors, and the piece measures 77 cm high, 119 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. Position this compact sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living area to provide functional surface space and enclosed storage for tableware, linens, or everyday items. The traditional English country house aesthetic brings warmth to both period properties and contemporary interiors alike.

FAQs

Georgian and Regency sideboards are recognised for their symmetry, balanced proportions, and use of highly figured flame mahogany veneers. Popularised in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, these designs frequently feature bowfront or serpentine curves, brass ring pulls, and bracket feet.

These sideboards were typically crafted from solid mahogany or pine carcasses veneered with cuts of flame mahogany timber. Drawer linings were generally made from solid oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails, and finished with cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer construction, irregular tool marks on unexposed wood surfaces, and natural wood shrinkage along drawer bottoms. Original brass hardware will often show slight variations in casting and age-appropriate oxidisation.

Designers position bowfront sideboards in dining rooms, foyers, or living spaces to provide warm wood tones. They are often balanced with modern art framed above the cabinet and accessorised with contemporary ceramics, table lamps, or minimal glass vessels to soften the traditional aesthetic.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth along the wood grain. Apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish twice per year to protect the veneer, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and harsh sunlight to prevent drying and fading.
