Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian chests of drawers were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901 and are known for their substantial build, rich timbers, and functional configurations. Commonly featuring two short drawers over three long drawers, these pieces evolved from earlier Georgian styles into heavier designs featuring turned side details, plinth bases, and deep flame veneers.

High-grade mahogany, walnut, and rosewood were popular primary timbers, often enhanced with flame or burr veneers on drawer fronts. Secondary woods such as pine, ash, or oak were utilised for interior drawer linings, complemented by turned wooden handles sometimes inset with mother-of-pearl centres.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, keyhole escutcheon inserts, and natural timber shrinkage lines on rear boards. Natural oxidisation, drawer runner wear, and a gentle age patina developed over decades also distinguish genuine period items from modern reproduction furniture.

A Victorian chest serves as a grounding focal element when paired with contemporary wall art, modern ceramics, or minimalist table lamps. Positioning the piece in a hallway, bedroom, or living space creates an effective balance between classic woodwork and clean, neutral architectural lines.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year following the natural grain of the wood. Avoid placement near direct heat sources, radiators, or prolonged sunlight to prevent the timber veneer from drying out or fading.
