This Georgian chest on chest, dating to 1800, is a substantial piece of English country house furniture constructed from warm brown oak. The two-part tallboy features a moulded cornice at the top, a series of graduated drawers from top to bottom, and stands on bracket feet. Each drawer is fitted with brass swan-neck handles and central keyhole escutcheons that complement the rich grain of the timber. Measuring 184.5 cm high, 120 cm wide, and 62.5 cm deep, the cabinet separates into upper and lower sections for transport. In a modern home, this practical storage item functions well in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway to hold clothing and linens while adding traditional character to the interior.

A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a traditional furniture design featuring two stacked chests of drawers, developed during the 18th century to maximize vertical storage space.

Eighteenth-century oak chests were typically constructed using solid English or European oak timber, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck or bail handles.

Authentic Georgian furniture often exhibits hand-sawn timber markings, hand-cut dovetails of varying proportions, original steel or iron locks, and natural wear patterns along the drawer runners and feet.

Place an antique tallboy as a focal point against a neutral backdrop in a bedroom or hallway, balancing its visual weight with contemporary artwork or refined table lamps.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the original patination while avoiding direct heat sources.
