Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian double spoon-back sofa is a 19th-century upholstered settee featuring a contoured backrest shaped into two adjacent spoon-like curves. Popularised during the mid-to-late Victorian period, these pieces were designed for comfortable social seating and often featured deep buttoning and carved hardwood frames.

Traditional Victorian leather sofas were constructed using solid hardwood frames, predominantly mahogany or walnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon joints. Upholstery featured hand-tied coil springs, horsehair padding, deep button-tufted natural leather, and brass studs on turned timber legs.

Authentic Victorian seating displays distinct hallmarks such as hand-carved timber accents with subtle variations, original brass castors, and deep buttoning secured with traditional twine. Natural age creates a characteristic patina and surface crazing on genuine period leather.

A Victorian green leather settee creates a strong visual anchor when contrasted against neutral walls or exposed brickwork in contemporary living spaces. Complementing the rich timber and olive green leather with brass lighting, wool throws, or minimalist artwork balances historical character with modern styling.

To preserve antique leather, apply a high-quality leather conditioner periodically to prevent drying and cracking, while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight. Mahogany timber elements should be dusted with a soft cloth and polished annually with natural beeswax to maintain lustre.
