Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak dresser base is a low, wide storage cabinet featuring drawers situated above cupboard doors or open pot boards. Originating in rural British homes during the Georgian period, these items served as functional kitchen surfaces and dining storage units.

These items were predominantly crafted from solid English or Welsh oak, incorporating hand-dovetailed drawer joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and wooden pegs. Secondary timber like pine was frequently used for drawer linings, accompanied by brass drop handles and brass H-hinges.

Authentic 18th-century examples display signs of hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetailed construction, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Examining back panels for hand-sawn boards and checking for original brassware or historical re-pegging provides evidence of age.

A low dresser base functions effectively as a sideboard in a hallway, dining space, or living room beneath artwork or a large wall mirror. Contrast the dark timber by pairing it with neutral wall colours, ceramic vessels, or understated lighting.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year. Position the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement or colour fading.
