A communion flagon is a lid-covered metal pitcher historically used in Christian liturgical services to hold consecrated wine prior to distribution during the Eucharist.

Most 19th-century flagons were cast using pewter, a tin-based alloy blended with copper, antimony, or lead, assembled with hand-soldered handles and hinged thumbpiece lids.

Authentic pieces typically feature touchmarks or makers stamps near the rim or base, subtle casting seam lines, age-appropriate oxidisation, and hand-engraved inscriptions.

Pewter flagons can be displayed as decorative accents on a wooden sideboard, arranged on open shelving alongside glassware, or styled as a focal point within a mantelpiece arrangement.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and wash gently using lukewarm water and neutral soap if necessary, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners that strip historical patina.
