Antique English Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Miniature Chestnut Urn

£265    $355    €310
Everything about this delightful Antique Miniature Chestnut Urn screams Georgian Old Sheffield Plate, circa 1790 ~ Everything that is other than the indisputable fact that it was presented to Farmer E, Jones of Brynffynnon, Rhuddlan at the Bodrhyddan Agricultural Show in 1920, as the owner of the ''Best Dairy Cow'' in show. In view of the prevailing economic climate during those early years immediately following the horrors of the First World War, not to speak of the grave difficulties facing the farming community at that time, it would appear highly unlikely that such a piece would then have been commissioned for this purpose. Far more likely is it that the piece is exactly what it at first glance appears to be, and that it was donated, perhaps by the owners of Bodrhyddan Hall, on whose estate the Show was held, it being then subsequently engraved for presentation.
