Henry Barlow Carter 1803-1867.Painter of coastal scenes,mostly in Scarborough,but lived mostly in Plymouth.Exhib.at RA,BI and SS.Some of his large atmospheric watercolours show the influence of Turner.His children included JN Carter,Vandyke Carter,and possibly Matilda Austin and RH Carter,all artists.

‘Fishing Boats off Scarborough’ signed watercolour,inscribed Scarborough and dated 1834,image size 28cx40.5 cms size 50x62 cms.Housed in modern giltwood frame with a wash line mount and True Vue Museum Glass.Provenance: with Newman Fine Art(see correspondence attached back of frame)
