Birdseye Maple Bureau Bookcase C.1890

Description

Very elegant late 19th.c. French bureau bookcase c.1890. Two door bookcase top fitted with two adjustable shelves (depth 7") and with two small drawers. Over a fall front writing desk with a baize lined writing surface which slides forward to afford more knee height and with two small stationery drawers inside and a larger frieze drawer below. Beautiful birdeye maple veneers across the exterior with contrasting raised mahogany mouldings. Carved detail to the centre of the cornice, the shape of which is echoed in the top of the glazed door panels. Curving front to the desk repeated on the sides of the top. Shaped apron to the long drawer front continued on the sides and raised on slim cabriole legs with carved detail to the knees and feet all round. Rosewood lined interior, mahogany drawer linings. A bubble to the veneer on the flat surface on the top of the desk. Otherwise excellent condition. Restored cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied for the doors, the fall and the drawers.
