This late nineteenth-century French Chateau style bedstead dates from the nineteenth century and is constructed from walnut timber with a warm brown colour and a visible wood grain. The piece comprises a tall, panelled headboard with a serpentine crest rail and detailed floral carvings, paired with a low footboard decorated with symmetrical floral garlands and symmetrical floral carvings along the upper edge, supported by turned feet at the base of the footboard. The woodwork displays moulded framing around the main panels and signs of age including surface wear on the timber surfaces. Measuring 147 cm high, 150 cm wide, and 221 cm deep, the bedstead accepts a standard 5ft by 6ft6 mattress measuring 150 cm by 200 cm.
