Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pricket candlestick features a central vertical spike designed to hold a candle securely by pressing it onto the metal point, rather than sitting inside a standard candle socket. This design originated in the medieval period and was extensively used in ecclesiastical and domestic settings throughout the 19th century.

Nineteenth-century wrought iron candlesticks were formed by blacksmiths using traditional hand-forging techniques, heating iron bars and hammering them into shape. Features such as twisted stems, cage knops, and arched tripod legs were joined using collars, rivets, or blacksmith welds.

Authentic antique wrought iron shows subtle irregularities from hand-hammering rather than modern uniform casting or machine moulding. Look for natural surface oxidisation, hand-riveted joints, tool marks, and a gentle patination that reflects decades of age and use.

A wrought iron pricket candlestick works effectively as a sculptural accent on a mantlepiece, sideboard, or inside a disused fireplace alcove. The dark, linear form contrasts well against modern plaster walls, light timber surface finishes, or stone hearths.

Clean wrought iron by dusting with a soft, dry cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove accumulation in decorative twists. To prevent corrosion, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax or beeswax polish occasionally and buff gently with a clean cloth.
