Description

This is a fabulous French carved walnut sofa beautifully upholstered in silk brocade dating from around 1900. The sofa has been meticulously and very skillfully handmade to an incredible standard. It has a very heavy hardwood frame, with absolutely no give and tight joints, and a show frame in intricately carved solid walnut. The design is very eye-catching with sweeping curves and carved floral knop hand rests, reflecting the changing fashions of the times. It is upholstered in a shell pink silk brocade and has deep buttoning to the back and separate thick squab cushions, feather-filled, making a most comfortable seat. The upholstery is to a standard difficult to find these days and is in excellent condition throughout, with no wear or fading at all. The sofa measures 72 cm high by 166 cm wide by 90 cm deep overall. The squab cushions each measure 62 cm wide by 62 cm deep, with the seat being 40 cm from the floor.
