FAQs

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in Turkey and are historically known for their oversized floral motifs, muted or vegetable-dyed palettes, and softer wool textures compared to other Persian or Anatolian counterparts.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation threads, often incorporating natural vegetable dyes derived from madder root, indigo, and other plant sources.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the irregular knot density on the reverse, the organic variation in vegetable dye colours, the presence of hand-spun wool, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

An antique carpet serves as a grounding foundational piece in contemporary spaces, pairing well with minimalist furniture or neutral upholstery to let the intricate patterns and aged tones stand out.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional specialist cleaning, avoiding direct prolonged sunlight exposure, and using a breathable rug underlay to prevent friction wear.
