Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian side cabinets from the early twentieth century are recognised for lightened proportions compared to earlier Victorian furniture, often drawing inspiration from eighteenth-century Neoclassical and Sheraton designs. Key features include fine wood veneers, detailed satinwood inlay, shell or patera motifs, and geometric astragal glazing.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and rich veneers, often featuring contrasting marquetry or stringing using satinwood and boxwood. Traditional cabinetmaking techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber backboards, and hand-fitted brass hardware were standard.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, including subtle irregularities in hand-cut glazing bars, natural age-related patination, and original brass lock mechanisms or keyhole escutcheons. Inspecting the interior and back for older construction methods and wood shrinkage also helps confirm age.

A low glazed side cabinet functions well as a display surface for contemporary ceramics or artwork while providing enclosed storage for books and glassware. Positioning the piece against a neutral backdrop highlights the warm mahogany grain and delicate inlay work without overwhelming the room.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the woods lustre. To protect the inlay and glass, position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
