A Namazlyk is a traditional Islamic prayer rug featuring a distinctive architectural arch or mihrab design, historically woven in the Caucasus region for daily devotions.

These rugs are typically hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for the pile, warp, and weft, often dyed with natural vegetable and insect colourants such as madder root and indigo.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the knot density, wool quality, characteristic geometric motifs, natural colour variations, and the structure of the foundation and selvedges.

An antique prayer rug can be used as a focal point in a living space, displayed as wall art to protect the pile, or layered over a larger neutral rug to add texture and history.

Preservation involves regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, keeping the rug out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and professional organic cleaning when necessary.
