Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

It measures 100 cm high, 110 cm wide, and 58.5 cm deep. This piece fits easily into a living room, drawing room, or master bedroom as a stylish seating option for two people. It provides comfortable conversational seating or acts as a decorative accent against a wall in a traditional or period interior.

FAQs

Victorian sofas are defined by intricate wood carvings, dark timber framesmost frequently mahogany, walnut, or rosewoodand curvilinear silhouettes including cabriole legs and arched crest rails.

19th-century frames were constructed using solid hardwoods with mortise and tenon joinery. Internal cushioning typically relied on hand-tied steel coil springs, natural horsehair, hessian webbing, and cotton padding.

Look for signs of period craftsmanship, such as hand-carved decorative motifs, original brass castors, hand-cut joinery on the frame, and authentic age-related patina on unpolished wood surfaces.

A Victorian settee can be modernised by reupholstering it in textured, contemporary fabrics such as linen or boucle, creating a contrast when placed alongside modern minimalist coffee tables or contemporary lighting.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually along the wood grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric fading.
