Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A dresser base, historically part of a Welsh dresser or serving setup, is a low storage table with drawers used in dining rooms or hallways. Popularised during the 17th to early 20th centuries, these pieces provided surface space for serving food alongside functional drawer storage.

Edwardian cabinetmakers frequently utilised figured burr walnut veneers applied over solid hardwood frames, such as oak or pine. Key construction features include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass hardware or drop handles, and turned legs linked by low stretchers.

Authentic Edwardian revival pieces feature precise joinery, original brass hardware with light patina, and fine book-matched burr walnut veneers. Inspecting the undersides and drawer linings reveals historic tool marks, age-related timber shrinkage, and original construction methods.

A burr walnut dresser base works effectively as a hallway console, dining room sideboard, or drawing room focal piece. Placing modern artwork or neutral ceramics above the wooden surface creates a balanced visual contrast against the rich timber grain.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent veneer cracking or lifting. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax will nourish the wood and maintain its finish.
