This George III period water urn dates from around 1800 and exhibits a rustic farmhouse style. Formed from copper, brass and iron, the body displays a warm copper colour with a hand-hammered finish and warm metallic tones throughout. The vessel includes a fitted copper lid with a looped handle at the top, an arched wrought iron swing handle attached by side loops, a horizontal copper spout projecting from the lower body, and a brass spigot tap at the end of the spout. The hammered metal surface shows historical wear and patina consistent with age. The piece stands 51 cm high, 31 cm wide and 55 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this urn serves as a decorative accessory placed on a kitchen island.

During the eighteenth century, copper water urns served as reservoir vessels in sculleries, kitchens, or dining spaces for holding fresh water and dispensing it via a brass tap.

These vessels were primarily constructed from hand-hammered sheet copper, fitted with brass taps, and equipped with hand-forged wrought iron hanging handles for suspension.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-hammered surface indentations, brazed or dovetailed seams, original brass taps showing operational wear, and hand-forged iron handles.

Position the urn on a kitchen island, sideboard, or hearth to add textural warm copper tones and historical character to modern stone or timber surfaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft cloth and preserve the aged patina by avoiding harsh abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners.
