This is a delightful 19th century Afshar rug. Woven on a wool foundation, wool pile and excellent natural dyes, it has great tribal character. Rows of stylised botehs float above an ivory field with scattered secondary motifs, framed by a beautiful stylised floral border on an abrashed terracotta ground. Afshar weavers were influenced by the urban designs of the nearby Kirman workshops. This lovely tribal rug is a charming attempt to emulate the floral kirman designs. Cherished over the generations, it has survived in very good condition. Good even pile with original selvages and kilim ends. Professionally cleaned.
