Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Brass production in China gained significant momentum during the Ming and Qing dynasties, expanding heavily into decorative export goods by the 19th and early 20th centuries. Artisans created cast and hand-chased pieces featuring traditional mythology, symbolic flora, and figural narrative scenes designed for both domestic use and Western trade.

These items were predominantly crafted from brass or bronze alloys, formed through casting or hammering techniques into shallow circular forms. Decorative elements were added using chasing, engraving, and etching tools to create detailed line drawings on the metal surface.

Authentic period examples generally display hand-chased tooling marks rather than machine-stamped designs, accompanied by uneven patina or oxidisation in deeper recesses. Weight, hand-finished rim profile variations, and traditional mark stamps on the reverse also assist in identification.

These pieces can be displayed upright on plate stands atop sideboards or consoles to catch light, or mounted on walls in gallery groupings. The warm metallic tones complement minimalist, maximalist, and traditional interior palettes.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove surface grime. Avoid abrasive polishes or harsh chemical solvents that strip the original protective patina; a light application of microcrystalline wax can preserve the metal surface.
