Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chair-back settee is a form of bench where the backrest is carved to resemble two or more joined chair backs. During the Edwardian period, cabinetmakers frequently produced these pieces in mahogany, drawing design inspiration from eighteenth-century Chippendale motifs.

Edwardian settees were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or walnut frames, featuring detailed hand-carved splats and swept legs. The seats were built with traditional coil springs or webbed foundations and covered in woven damask, velvet, or brocade fabrics.

Authentic Edwardian pieces exhibit hand-finished mortise and tenon joinery, natural patination along high-touch wood areas, and fine, precise carving on the back splats. Examining the underside reveals historic timber oxidation and traditional upholstery construction methods.

These long, slim seats work effectively at the foot of a bed, beneath a window, or along an entrance hallway wall. Their openwork backrests allow light to pass through, preserving sightlines in narrower architectural spaces.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste annually to nourish the wood. Vacuum the upholstered seat using a low-suction fabric attachment and keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
