Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pierced brass planter, or cachepot, is a decorative metal container produced during the 19th century to house plain ceramic plant pots. Featuring reticulated or geometric pierced patterns, these vessels were frequently displayed in greenhouses, conservatories, and formal reception rooms.

These containers were typically constructed from rolled sheet brass, with lattice patterns cut out using hand-punching or stamped die methods. Decorative elements such as cast lion-mask handles and claw feet were attached separately using rivets or solder.

Authentic period planters often exhibit hand-assembled joints, minor variations in hand-cut piercing, and natural oxidisation in protected areas. Cast fittings such as handles and feet usually show manual chasing marks and historical wear patterns.

Place the planter on a sideboard, console table, or window sill with potted indoor foliage such as ferns or succulents to contrast metal tones with organic greenery. It can also be repurposed on a desk or shelving unit as a decorative storage container.

Clean the exterior using a soft, dry cloth and specialised brass polish to retain brightness, or leave untreated to encourage natural age patination. Insert a waterproof inner lining to protect the base from moisture damage when housing live plants.
