FAQs

Burr walnut features the unique, swirled grain patterns taken from the wart or growth on a walnut tree. It gained prominence during the late 17th century in the Baroque period and saw major revivals in the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, solid secondary woods inside, and traditional tongue-and-groove panel backs.

Authenticity is identified through examining the consistency of the grain, hand-cut joinery, the presence of oxidation or patina on the brass hardware, and traditional construction marks.

A burr walnut chest acts as a strong focal point in contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist surroundings, clean lines, and neutral backdrops to highlight the intricate wood grain.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight and high humidity fluctuations. Clean surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and periodically nourish the wood using a traditional beeswax polish.
