Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region and named after the port town of Imari from which it was shipped abroad, primarily recognised for its distinctive palette of blue, red, and gold.

Imari porcelain is crafted from kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures, and decorated using a combination of underglaze cobalt blue paint followed by overglaze iron red enamels and metallic gilding.

Authentic pieces generally display subtle irregularities from hand-painting, minor firing imperfections in the glaze, blue spur marks or character marks on the underside, and age-consistent wear to overglaze enamels and gilding.

A set of Imari plates can be arranged as a symmetrical gallery wall feature above a sideboard or console table, or individually displayed on wooden plate stands within open shelving.

Hand wash gently using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding abrasive pads or chemical cleaners that could degrade overglaze enamels and gilding, and never place them in a dishwasher.
