This 18th century French commode in the Rococo style is constructed from kingwood with a warm brown parquetry veneer, fitted with an original marble top and cast brass handles, escutcheons, and mounts. It features a bombé form with curved sides, two short upper drawers and two long lower drawers below, and shaped feet. The timber exhibits rich grain patterns in warm brown tones, the brass mounts have scrolled leaf designs, and the drawer fronts are divided by intricate parquetry panels. Measuring 86 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, it provides practical storage for a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The piece functions effectively as a focal point or storage chest in a traditional or eclectic interior. Placed against a wall, the flat marble surface serves as a display area for decorative items, while the deep drawers accommodate linens, clothing, or household accessories. The sweeping curves and classic proportions bring historical character to a home setting without dominating the room layout.

A French bombe commode is a chest of drawers defined by a swelling, convex front and curved side panels. Originating in the Rococo period under Louis XV, these storage pieces feature decorative timber veneers, cast metal hardware, and fitted marble tops.

French Rococo commodes frequently incorporate exotic timber veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, or rosewood applied over an oak carcass. They are finished with shaped marble slabs on top and cast brass or gilt-bronze mounts for handles and escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century French pieces feature hand-sawn wood framing, dovetail drawer joinery, and natural hand-cast metal mounts. Original marble tops usually display hand-chiselled undersides and precise edge profiling that matches the carcass beneath.

A bombe commode functions as a focal point in hallways, bedrooms, or reception rooms, providing texture against modern architectural backgrounds. Pairing rich wood grain with minimalist lighting or contemporary artwork creates a balanced interior scheme.

Veneered surfaces require placement away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement or lift. Marble tops should be cleaned using pH-neutral water to avoid etching the natural stone finish.
