Description

One of the best. A mid 19th century Turkish runner with superlative colour, radiating from the naturally dyed wool. The thick pile allover really helps the colours glow and the condition is really something to behold in such an old rug. Virtually untouched, with only light corrosion to the black and a small chip at one end that is in the queue for restoration in my workshop. Feast your eyes on this rare piece, such a thing comes to market very infrequently. From a private US collection, and a dear old friend.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Kirsehir rugs are traditional hand-knotted pile carpets originating from the Central Anatolian region of Turkey, known for their distinct tribal motifs and rich history.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-spun sheeps wool for the pile, warp, and weft, dyed using natural vegetable and insect-based colourants.

Authentication involves examining the hand-knotted construction, irregularities in the weave, natural abrash in the dyes, and the specific characteristics of the wool foundation.

An antique runner brings texture and heritage to modern hallways, corridors, or kitchens, contrasting well with neutral floors and minimalist architecture.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional organic washing when needed, and keeping the textile away from direct, harsh sunlight.
