Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An eighteenth-century Dutch chest of drawers originates from the eighteenth century in an eighteenth-century Dutch style. The piece consists of warm brown elm timber with a polished finish, complemented by brass hardware. The exterior shows four graduated drawers featuring a serpentine front profile, brass drop handles, key escutcheons, and side carrying handles, supported by bracket feet. This chest stands 81 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. Such a chest of drawers functions practically as a storage unit in a bedroom, living room, hallway, or study. The surface provides a display area for decorative items, lamps, or photographs, while the drawers accommodate clothing, linens, papers, or everyday objects. The compact proportions allow the furniture to fit comfortably against walls or in smaller alcoves without dominating the interior space.

FAQs

Eighteenth-century Dutch chests of drawers, often referred to as commodes, frequently feature serpentine or shaped fronts, solid timber construction, and distinct brass hardware including side carrying handles.

Cabinetmakers favoured durable hardwoods such as elm, oak, and walnut, complemented by hand-cast brass drop handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period examples typically exhibit hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brassware, and age-appropriate wear around working areas like keyholes and drawer runners.

A period commode functions well as a focal piece in an entryway, dining room, or bedroom, providing substantial storage while contrasting structured modern lines with rich timber grain.

Maintain stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply beeswax sparingly twice per year to protect the wood finish.
