Antique Caucasian Kazak

1900 - 1920
Description

This Caucasian Kazak is remarkably captivating, despite its simplicity. Clearly-rendered rosettes blossom next to the breezy leaf and calyx border, that catches the eye with its cream-coloured ground. A line of stepped gull medallions is another traditional feature, that is perfectly balanced between a curated selection of enigmatic squares and intricate drawings. Although this field is more sparse than most Kazak designs, it allows the onlooker to appreciate the depth of the midnight blue ground, an attractive feature that helps this rug to elevate. If you look closely you will spot an interesting character well before his time with almost 3D glasses !!!

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Caucasian Kazak rugs are hand-knotted tribal textiles created by nomadic and village weavers in the Caucasus region, distinguished by bold geometric medallions, vivid natural dyes, and heavy wool construction.

Traditional Kazak rugs are woven using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation warp and weft, coloured with natural vegetable and mineral dyes.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-spun wool knotting with slight irregularities, abrash colour variations from vegetable dyes, distinctive geometric or latch-hook motifs, and a flexible wool foundation.

These rugs serve as a strong visual anchor, pairing effectively with dark timber furniture in classic settings or contrasting cleanly against modern minimalist furniture and neutral floorboards.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating brush, address spills immediately with a clean dry cloth, and rotate periodically to ensure even wear.
