Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An alms dish is a broad brass platter traditionally used in churches to collect charitable donations or offerings. Originally produced in Nuremberg and later across Europe from the 15th to 18th centuries, these dishes feature central repousse motifs and decorative embossed rims.

These dishes were crafted from sheet brass using repousse and chasing techniques, where metal is hammered from the reverse to create raised relief patterns. Details such as foliate borders and central floral bosses were hand-punched or embossed into the surface.

Authentic 18th-century brass dishes display hand-hammered irregularities on the reverse, signs of uneven wear on raised surfaces, and deep patination within recessed relief areas. Modern reproductions often show uniform casting lines, machine precision, and artificial ageing treatments.

An antique brass dish can be displayed on a wall plate hanger, rested on a fireplace mantelpiece, or positioned centrally on a sideboard. The warm metallic tones complement both dark wood furniture and minimalist contemporary backdrops.

Clean the brass gently with a soft dry cloth to remove surface dust without stripping natural patination. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive scrubbers, applying a light coat of microcrystalline wax if corrosion protection is required.
