Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
There are some great touches in the work, particularly the breath coming from the beasts and the expressions. The painting does not appear to be signed but is very much in the vein of English school painting of the Victorian period, with a slight naivety and a huge amount of charm. The painting is in good condition, it has been cleaned and minor losses touched in, there is some craquelure in places all of which is stable and not distracting from the work. The painting is framed in a slightly later period frame which it has been in for a long time, works very well and is in excellent condition. The whole has a wonderful look, full of charm and is ready to hang. C.1880.
