FAQs

Iron and metal beds gained immense popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in industrial manufacturing, offering a hygienic and durable alternative to traditional wooden frames.

These beds typically utilise heavy cast iron and wrought iron components, joined by original metal clamps, threaded spindles, and decorative brass or porcelain finials.

Authentic period pieces often feature heavy hand-poured iron castings, visible forging marks, original iron side rails, and appropriately scaled dimensions that differ from modern standard mattress sizes.

An antique iron bed functions as a strong focal point in a bedroom, pairing well with neutral linens, natural wood flooring, and minimalist or rustic decor to balance the industrial weight of the metal.

Preservation involves dusting with a soft dry cloth and treating any oxidisation gently with specialised metal waxes, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the original surface finish.
