A fire fender is a low metal guard placed around the hearth to contain ash and embers, with Georgian examples typically featuring refined metalwork and classical proportions.

These fenders were predominantly constructed from heavy-gauge brass, often utilising casting, piercing, and hand-engraving techniques.

Authentic pieces generally display period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut piercing, riveted joints, and natural age-related patination on the brass.

A brass fender adds warmth and texture to both traditional fireplaces and minimalist hearths, anchoring the living space with period character.

Maintenance involves gentle dusting and occasional cleaning with appropriate metal polish if a bright finish is desired, though many prefer to preserve the aged patina.
