Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Chesterfield sofa from the nineteenth century combines a rose pink fabric upholstery with a subtle floral pattern, rosewood legs, and brass castors. The seating piece displays scroll arms at each end, short turned wooden supports resting upon small metal wheels, and a uniform textured textile surface across the backrest, seat base, and outer sides. It measures 68 cm high, 220 cm wide, and 90 cm deep. Position this upholstered settee within a sitting room, drawing room, or library to provide comfortable seating for multiple people. The traditional English country house design sits well against neutral walls or alongside classic wooden furniture pieces.

FAQs

A 19th-century Chesterfield sofa is characterised by its distinctive rolled scroll arms that sweep continuously into a backrest of equal or similar height. During the Victorian era, these sofas incorporated coil spring construction, horsehair padding, and turned wooden legs fitted with brass castors.

Traditional 19th-century upholstery relied on solid hardwood frames, usually beech or oak, alongside steel coil springs, hand-stitched hessian, and horsehair or animal hair padding. Outer upholstery fabrics typically included woven wool damasks, cotton velvets, or printed chintz fabrics.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-turned timber feet with period-appropriate brass castors, hand-tied steel coil springs beneath the frame, and heavy timber construction. Examining the underside reveals period joining techniques and natural stuffing materials rather than synthetic foam.

A rose pink antique sofa works as a focal point in neutral modern rooms when paired with contemporary art, muted rugs, and clean-lined side tables. Combining traditional patterned fabric with modern textures creates a balanced transitional interior scheme.

Maintain fabric upholstery by gently vacuuming regularly using a soft brush attachment to remove dust accumulation. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and consult a professional textile restorer for spot cleaning.
