Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 17th-century bronze cauldron is a heavy cast metal vessel designed for open-hearth cooking across Continental Europe. Typically supported by three integral legs to sit directly in embers, these utility vessels featured wrought iron swing handles for suspension over fires.

These vessels were created using sand or lost-wax casting methods for the bronze body and feet, while the swing handles were hand-forged from wrought iron. The legs were cast as part of the main body to provide structural stability when placed near intense heat.

Authentic pieces exhibit irregular surface textures from historical casting methods, hand-forged iron rivets, and asymmetrical leg profiles. Look for deep oxidation inside the vessel, heavy wear on the base, and signs of hand-hammered finish work along the rim and handles.

Position the cauldron on an open hearth or stone hearth alcove as a focal accent piece. It can also function as a planter, firewood holder, or rustic vessel alongside timber and stone architectural elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and apply microcrystalline wax to preserve the existing patina and prevent corrosion on the iron elements. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners, which strip historical oxidation and alter the surface colour.
