This nineteenth-century Napoleon III breakfront side cabinet adopts a breakfront profile and is constructed from dark brown rosewood, highlighted with brass, ormolu, and tortoiseshell Boulle marquetry. The piece displays an ormolu acanthus mould to the top above an ormolu vitruvian scrolled frieze, along with gilt-bronze or ormolu mouldings, raised central oval panels featuring red and silver tones, and acanthus square legs fitted with ormolu corinthium capitals. Two central doors sit alongside concave rosewood panels and similarly decorated end doors, supported by turned and carved upright legs. Measuring 101 cm high, 203 cm wide, and 47 cm deep, the cabinet stands ready for placement in a formal reception room or dining space to provide display and storage surface area.

A Boulle breakfront side cabinet is a nineteenth-century storage piece featuring a central section that protrudes forward from its side wings, decorated with intricate inlay techniques pioneered by Andre-Charles Boulle in seventeenth-century France.

Boulle marquetry traditional construction combines cut brass, pewter, and tortoiseshell inlaid into a hardwood substrate, often trimmed with gilt-bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-cut metal and tortoiseshell inlays, heavy gilt-bronze mountings with sharp chased detailing, solid timber framing, and period-appropriate hand-finished cabinet joinery.

A Boulle side cabinet functions as a focal anchor when paired with neutral wall finishes, contemporary abstract artwork, and understated architectural lighting to highlight its intricate brass inlay.

Keep the cabinet in a climate-controlled environment with stable humidity to prevent the brass and tortoiseshell from lifting due to wood movement, and dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth without harsh chemical polishes.
