Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Edwardian solid copper and brass oval jardiniere brings classic English Country House style to living spaces. The heavy gauge metal body displays a subtle hand-hammered finish with light surface scratches and a warm polished copper tone, contrasted by a flared brass upper rim and a matching rolled base rim. Stamped markings appear on both brass borders, noting manufacture in England alongside maker details. The vessel measures 18 cm high, 27.8 cm wide, and 14.5 cm deep overall, sitting firmly balanced on its flared foot. Placement suits prominent display locations within the home, fitting particularly well atop a sideboard, console table, or deep window sill. The interior provides a functional space for holding potted indoor plants, floral arrangements, or decorative greenery. Maintenance involves simple dusting and occasional polishing to preserve the exterior shine while retaining the remaining historical patina.

FAQs

A jardiniere is a decorative metal or ceramic vessel designed to house potted plants, foliage, or floral displays indoors. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, copper jardinieres were widely produced to protect interior furniture from water run-off while providing an ornamental focal point.

Traditional copper metalware was formed by raising sheet metal using hammers over shaping anvils. Components such as brass rims, base rings, and handles were subsequently brazed, dovetailed, or soldered onto the main body.

Authentic period pieces often feature visible seam lines, slight irregularities from hand-hammering, and contrasting brass trim along rims or bases. Interior surfaces frequently display dark oxidisation, verdigris, or solder marks consistent with historic use.

An oval copper jardiniere can be placed on a sideboard, console table, or wide window sill to hold indoor plants such as ferns or orchids. Alternatively, these vessels function as practical table-top containers for firewood logs or rolled textiles.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth. To maintain a reflective polished finish, apply a specialised metal cleaner gently, or leave the surface unpolished to allow a natural dark patina to develop over time.
