Description

Antique pocket watch, chain and compass.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has a brevet (patent) number 35344 which relates to a 1905 patent in the name of Leon Levy & Freres SA. Leon Levy founded Pierce in 1883. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has some scratching.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel. The front and sides are in good condition. The hinged case back has some unevenness.

The glass lens has a small mark, not very noticeable to the naked eye.

The dial is in lovely condition. Pin set hands.

The watch comes with single chain, 30cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. Also included is an English made compass with a hinged out magnifying glass. The compass is a little temperamental and it is quite difficult to read.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Pocket watches evolved from spring-driven clock watches developed in 15th-century Europe, becoming a standard gentlemans accessory by the 17th and 18th centuries.

Antique pocket watches typically feature cases made from gold, silver, gold-plated base metals, or gunmetal, housing intricate brass and steel mechanical movements protected by glass or crystal.

Authentic pieces can be identified by hallmarks on the inner case, mechanical hand-wound movements, serial numbers, and signs of genuine wear and oxidisation on the metal components.

An antique pocket watch and chain can be displayed in a glass dome, shadow box, or laid on a tray in a study or library to add a touch of historical character.

Keep antique timepieces away from moisture and extreme temperatures, store them securely, and have mechanical movements serviced periodically by a professional horologist.
