This rare Japanese bronze ritual or offering bowl dates from the Edo period, specifically circa 1700 to 1750. The piece displays a dark brown finish with an original, untouched patina, showing significant age wear, minor cracks and dents, and hand-forged rivets securing separate applied cartouches. The design includes alternating mask-like faces of samurai warriors in horned helmets and stylized sacred trees with fine hand-engraved detailing, complemented by an upper rim bearing a classic key-fret pattern. The dimensions are 7 cm in height and 16.2 cm in diameter, with a weight of 324 g. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or study, the bowl offers an authentic antique presence as a decorative display object. The physical construction reflects archaic ceremonial ware rather than later Meiji revival production. The metal surface exhibits natural weathering and wear consistent with centuries of history, while the form remains unaltered without any modern restorations.

Edo period bronze bowls were crafted in Japan between 1603 and 1867, frequently featuring stylistic motifs inspired by ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessels.

These vessels were typically cast using the lost-wax method and finished with hand-carved relief detailing and surface patination.

Genuine period pieces display natural surface wear, authentic dark patination or verdigris in recessed areas, and characteristic casting traits.

Display the bowl as a focal decorative object on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or bookshelf to add texture and historical contrast to modern decor.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid liquids, abrasive polishes, or chemical cleaners that remove the natural patina.
