Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian portrait miniature is a small-scale painting, typically created between 1714 and 1830, designed to be worn as jewellery or kept as a personal memento. These pieces often depict loved ones or prominent figures and were executed with extreme precision.

Portrait miniatures from the 18th century were commonly painted using vitreous enamel on copper plates or watercolour on vellum or thin ivory sheets. Frames and mounts were typically crafted from gold, gilt-brass, or silver, sometimes decorated with enamel borders.

Authentication involves examining hair and clothing styles under magnification, verifying period-appropriate painting techniques like stippling or hatching, and evaluating the construction and metal composition of the frame.

Small portrait miniatures can be hung as part of a curated gallery wall in a hallway or study, displayed inside a glass cloche on a shelf, or placed on an easel alongside framed artwork.

Enamel and watercolour miniatures should be displayed away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and fluctuating temperatures. Dusting should be performed gently with a clean, dry, soft-bristled brush without applying liquid cleaners or polishes.
