He dedicated himself to sculpture, working in the Morani brothers'' workshop and in 1874 he moved to Naples, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts. He was a pupil of Tommaso Solari, Stanislao Lista, Gioacchino Toma and in the Academy he won the admission competition to the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Naples.
