Queen Anne Walnut Chest of Drawers

18th century
Description

A fine early 18th-century Queen Anne chest of drawers crafted from rich English walnut with exceptional warmth and depth of tone. This elegant piece features a classic two-over-three drawer configuration, adorned with period-style brass bail handles and pierced escutcheons that highlight its refined Georgian character.

The top boasts a striking bookmatched veneer, showcasing a beautifully symmetrical grain pattern—an unmistakable mark of craftsmanship from this period. The chest stands on boldly shaped bracket feet, and its proportions reflect the transition from late William and Mary to early Queen Anne design: restrained yet sophisticated.

This chest has developed a lovely patina over the centuries, with age-appropriate wear that enhances its antique charm. The side panels reveal old shrinkage marks and rich grain movement consistent with early walnut case pieces.

Key features include its circa 1710 date, bookmatched veneer top, two short drawers over three long graduated drawers, period-style brass hardware with pierced escutcheons, original bracket feet, and an excellent old surface with a warm patina.

Whether placed in a refined bedroom, study, or hall, this chest brings historic English elegance and functional beauty to any interior.
