Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Low chests crafted in burr walnut became popular during the late 17th and early 18th centuries in Britain, particularly within the William & Mary and Queen Anne periods. Craftsmen favoured burr walnut for its intricate pattern, applying thinly cut veneers onto solid oak or pine frames to create decorative storage pieces.

Traditional pieces feature burr walnut veneers applied over a secondary timber core such as oak or pine, often accented with feather or crossbanded borders. Construction features typically include hand-cut dovetail joints, brass drop handles with decorative backplates, and solid turned or cabriole legs.

Authentic period examples display natural variation in the wood grain, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and historic wear on drawer runners. Look for signs of age around brass escutcheons, hand-planed secondary timbers, and soft patination across the timber surfaces.

A low burr walnut chest works well in contemporary settings as a hallway credenza, bedroom storage unit, or living room focal point. The warm wood tones contrast effectively with neutral wall palettes, modern artwork, or clean structural lines.

Burr walnut furniture should be kept away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional light applications of beeswax polish help protect the delicate veneer and maintain the timber patina.
