A very attractive oil painting on canvas board by John Tunnard, depicting a hunter in grouse moorland with his dogs.

A skilfully executed painting with natural heather and seascape colour and in very good condition. The gilded frame is also in good condition with no losses.

John Charles Tunnard lived at Sandy, Bedfordshire, and was born in 1875; he painted equestrian and landscape subjects throughout East Anglia.

His paintings of the Shuttleworth family's horses hang at Old Warden Park, Bedfordshire.

He was the father of John Tunnard (British, 1900-1971), the 20th Century abstract artist.
