Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A jardiniere is an ornamental pot or container designed to hold plants or flowers, which became highly popular in affluent Victorian households as interior greening and indoor plant displays gained traction.

These items were typically crafted from sheet brass using techniques such as spinning, hammering, embossing, and repousse, often featuring cast brass feet or handles attached with rivets or solder.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-beaten surfaces, heavy gauges of brass, natural patination, and wear consistent with age, alongside stylistic motifs characteristic of the 19th century.

This type of decorative vessel works well as a contrasting metallic accent on wooden surfaces, mantels, or sideboards, functioning either as a standalone decorative object or housing potted plants like ferns.

To preserve the historic surface and natural patina, brass items should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and kept away from excessive moisture; aggressive metal polishes should be avoided unless necessary to remove active corrosion.
