Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau fireside companion sets are characterised by sinuous lines, organic plant-inspired forms, and whiplash curves that emerged in late 19th and early 20th-century Europe. These decorative functional items transformed utilitarian hearth tools into artistic expressions inspired by nature.

French hearth tools from this period were commonly crafted from copper, bronze, and brass, often combining metals through cast and hammered construction methods. The use of warm-toned metals allowed for intricate hand-chased ornamentation and sculpted botanical motifs.

Authentic pieces display natural age-related wear, characteristic construction joins such as hand-hammered rivets, and asymmetrical, flowing organic decoration rather than rigid geometric patterns. Look for heavy metal construction and subtle patina consistent with historic fireside exposure.

Position the set alongside a restored open fireplace or modern wood-burning stove to create a focal point on a tiled or stone hearth. The sculptural metalwork contrasts effectively against neutral modern brickwork or plaster.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives that can strip the historic patina. A light application of clear microcrystalline wax can protect metal surfaces against oxidisation and moisture damage.
