Description

A rare antique Heriz rug, handwoven circa 1900, possibly a little earlier. The design features a geometrical pink medallion, more reminiscent of Caucasian rugs, on an unusual gold field surrounded by a soft blue border. Fabulous secondary colours including pinks and greens. The style and combination of colours is not something I have come across before and it's a wonderful decorative little rug!

Size: 1.73m x 0.94m (5ft 8in x 3ft 1in)

This rug has medium all over wear, slightly heavier in places (see photos). Slight loss to end borders, now secured (see photos). The fringes and selvedges are secure and it has been professionally cleaned.

Free worldwide shipping.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Heriz rugs are hand-knotted carpets traditionally produced in the Heris region of northwestern Iran, known for their durable construction and distinctive geometric medallion designs.

Authentic pieces are crafted from hand-spun wool pile woven onto cotton foundations, utilizing natural vegetable dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the knot density on the reverse, the presence of natural abrash colour variations, and the heavy-duty cotton foundation structure characteristic of the region.

These carpets ground modern spaces by introducing rich textures and contrasting geometric patterns, serving as a focal point beneath coffee tables or in entryways.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand washing every few years, and keeping the textile away from prolonged direct sunlight.
